“Monday, Monday” is a song written by John Phillips and recorded by the Mamas and the Papas in 1966. One of the best Sixties groups to come out of the USA. The Mamas and the Papas cut the single for their 1966 record If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. This was their only number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
On March 2, 1967, The Mamas & the Papas won a Grammy award on March 2, 1967, for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Monday, Monday
The Mamas & the Papas made their first recording singing backing vocals on McGuire's album This Precious Time, although they had already released a single of their own by the time the album appeared in December 1965. Initially, the group consisted of a husband and wife John and Michelle Phillips but subsequently joined by Cass Elliot  
The Mamas & the Papas released a total of five studio albums and seventeen singles over a four-year period, six which made the Billboard top ten and have sold close to 40 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for their contributions to the music industry
